Following the Universal Periodic Review of Australia by the Human Rights Council in January 2011, the Commontwealth Attorney-General sought submissions on prioritisation and implementation of the HRC Working Group’s 145 recommendations. ALHR’s submission endorses the the comprehensive submission of the NGO Coalition and the Human Rights Law Resource Centre.
ALHR supports the development and adoption of a legislative Charter of human rights for Tasmania. It applauds the Tasmanian Government on its progress towards its development.
In November 2010, Parliament tabled the “Criminal Code Amendment (Cluster Munitions Prohibition) Bill 2010” to implement Australia’s obligations under the Convention on Cluster Munitions.
