Who founded ALHR?

ALHR was founded in 1993 by Kate Eastman SC now a silk practising at the Sydney Bar. Kate had been working abroad in London for a year for a public interest litigation firm and was inspired to start up the same in Australia.

Nathan Kennedy, ALHR President

Nathan is a practising solicitor with over 14 year experience.  He holds an LLM (Human Rights and Social Justice).  In 2011 he was part of the NGO child’s rights task force that presented the ‘Listen to Children’ report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.  He has worked on numerous submissions with ALHR on issues such as refugees, same-sex marriage, anti-terrorism legislation and racial discrimination.
