World End the Death Penalty Day

October 8, 2010

On 8 October 2010, David Marr delivered a speech to a dinner organised by ALHR and Aussies Against Capital Punishment. The speech sets out Australia’s legal and political approach to the death penalty from early colonisation to the present. David quotes some unsettling statistics and statements by present-day Australian political leaders which suggest that the death penalty is not a dusty artefact of criminal punishment and brings into question the leadership that Australia can provide to the abolition of the death penalty in our region.
