ALHR wrote to the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General with concerns regarding the ‘Safer Streets Crime Action Plan – Youth Justice’
ALHR commended the Government’s proposed reference to Australian Law Reform Commission to examine and report on issues about native title. ALHR suggested that the Commission’s inquiry should also examine the operation of extinguishment law and the courts’ use of historical documents.
ALHR wrote to the Commonwealth Attorney-General, commending the decision to provide funding for the Aboriginal Legal Service to continue operating its Custody Notification Service for another two years.

ALHR has criticised the Parliamentary process which allowed only 40 hours for submissions. ALHR commended the draft Business Reference Guide on the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People. However ALHR suggested that more attention is required on issues such as who it applies to, and what occurs in relation to existing company operations which were established contrary to human rights.
