Modern Slavery Event
Date: Thu 16th February 2017
The Australian Government recently announced that it is considering a model for large businesses to publicly report on their actions to address supply chain exploitation. This model could potentially follow that of the UK Modern Slavery Act, introduced in 2015 to address the issue of slavery in supply chains via enhanced corporate transparency. The UK Act requires companies to prepare and publish an annual Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement containing details of the steps taken to identify and eradicate slavery from their business and supply chains. The UK Act applies to many large Australian companies doing business in the UK.
Amy Sinclair, Chair of our Business and Human Rights Subcommittee, will be speaking at a Governance Institute event – Modern Slavery– Are your directors ready? – in Melbourne on 16 February. A great opportunity to learn more about the UK Modern Slavery Act, as well as potentially similar developments in Australia.
