Date: Wed 12th August 2015

The honourable Justice Michael Kirby officially launched La Trobe Law School’s (LLS) relationship with ALHR on Friday 17 July at the Australian Law Teachers Association Conference hosted by the La Trobe Law School. ALHR and the La Trobe Law School are pleased to announce that Ms Randa Rafiq, a La Trobe Alumnus has been appointed by the LLS as the secretariat for ALHR.

This newly created partnership demonstrates La Trobe Law School dedication to innovative, high quality legal education with a strong commitment to social justice and interdisciplinary enquiry, a global perspective and hands on experience.  The secretariat and students undertaking the newly created Human Rights Advocacy subject will collaborate with ALHR to assist with research work for ALHR submissions, development of memoranda, enquiries of governments and institutions, liaison with the National ALHR committee, media monitoring, formatting and drafting of documents such as submissions, media releases, letters, agenda and much more. This is a great opportunity for students to gain valuable practical experience and provides ALHR with additional support and resources to enhance their ability to promote and support lawyers practice of human rights law in Australia; promote Federal and State laws across Australia that comply with the principles of international human rights law and assist victims of human rights violations in Australia.
