Constitutional recognition of Aboriginal peoples in NSW

Australian Lawyers for Human Rights congratulates the NSW Government for formally recognising the State’s first people in the NSW Constitution. The ALHR also congratulates all those involved in making this important change to the Constitution including the NSW Aboriginal Land Council. ?It represents a significant advance to the recognition and protection of human rights in this Country.

ALHR urges the NSW Government to support the symbolic recognition with practical outcomes addressing Aboriginal disadvantage across the State.?

The Victorian constitution was amended in 2004 and the Queensland constitution in 2010.?Such recognition should be followed by complimentary legislative and practical outcomes in all States and Territories across Australia as well as by the Commonwealth.
