Housing, Homelessness & Human Rights: An ALHR Canberra Panel Discussion
Please join ALHR and our esteemed panelists for an inspiring and informative evening of discussion on the human right to housing.
Every person is entitled to adequate access to a safe and secure place to live. This is enshrined in international human rights law yet in Australia we are seeing the number of people who find themselves homeless rise and in some states increasingly harsh measures criminalising those who ‘sleep rough’. At the same time waiting lists for community housing are immense and Australia faces a national housing affordability crisis.
This panel event is part of a week long series of events to mark International Tenants Day hosted at the Tenants Union ACT.
Our speakers include:
- Deb Pippen – Tenants Union ACT
- Warwick Fulton – St Vincent de Paul
- Travis Gilbert – ACT Shelter
- Karen Toohey – Disability and Communities Commissioner from ACT Human Rights Commission
- Robyn Lewis – Australian National University Education Officer
