ALHR Statement on Bondi Terror Attack
15 December 2025
Australian Lawyers for Human Rights (ALHR) is heartbroken and horrified by yesterday’s terror attack at Bondi Beach while Jewish Australians gathered to peacefully celebrate the first night of Hanukkah.
Our hearts go out to the victims and their grieving families and loved ones who are enduring unimaginable loss in the most horrific of circumstances. Our best wishes for recovery and healing are with those who were injured.
We pay tribute to the incredible individuals who heroically came to the aid of others yesterday, including community members, first responders and healthcare workers.
Everyone, of all faiths, cultures and backgrounds, should be safe in our communities. Antisemitism must be condemned. Violence, hate crimes and hate speech have no place in a democratic society. They are antithetical to the shared equal humanity from which we all derive our universal human rights to live with dignity and security, free from violence and discrimination.
The strength of Sydney and Australia lies in its multicultural fabric and collective commitment to the rule of law and the protection of shared values of respect, compassion and care for one another.
ALHR stands in solidarity with Jewish Australians during this time of immense grief and trauma.
