ALHR annual dinner with special guest Dan Mori NSW

Australian Lawyers for Human Rights Annual Dinner 2013 hosted with the support of the International Law Association and the International Commission of Jurists

Please join us for an evening with special guest Dan Mori.

Mr Mori is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps.  He  volunteered to represent Guantanamo Bay detainees and was appointed military defence lawyer for Australian citizen David Hicks in 2003.  He was responsible for the defence of David Hicks until the conclusion of proceedings in 2007.

In June 2007 Dan was presented with an honorary membership of the Australian Bar Association for his defence of David Hicks and, in October 2007, he was awarded a civil justice award from the Australian Lawyers Alliance as recognition by the legal profession of unsung heroes who, despite personal risk or sacrifice, have fought to preserve individual rights, human dignity or safety.

In July 2012, Dan moved to Melbourne to practice with law firm Shine Lawyers in their national social justice department and is currently completing the study required to enable him to practice law in Australia.
